Scotland has another parcel of rogues

al-Megrahi

Note the neatly pressed clothes al-Megrahi wears in his alleged “death-bed”

Approximately ten months after SNP Secretary Kenny MacAskill granted the Lockerbie bomber a compassionate release from prison, the truth has finally come to light. MacAskill tried to tell the world he had medical evidence al-Megrahi was dying of prostate cancer.  MacAskill then tried to tell the world the medical records were sealed at al-Megrahi’s request (which al-Megrahi is now publicly denying).

And today’s news headlines are now showing British Petroleum lobbied the U.K. for al-Megrahi’s release.

Of course Westminister’s newest toadie David Cameron has hurriedly rushed a statement saying there was no deal.  Perhaps when the newness wears off his Prime Minister title, Cameron will understand the last liar doesn’t stand a chance.

Those who know me well also know I am extremely proud of my Scottish heritage.  I am a staunch and vocal supporter for Scottish independence.  Scotland is the land of my forebears and I love her with every last fiber of my being.  And I am sickened to discover the SNP have been bought and sold for English gold.  Those who fail to learn from history are destined to repeat it, Mr. MacAskill.  Until Scotland realizes politicians like MacAskill are bowing to their Westminster masters, I fear I will not live to see Scotland declare her independence.

To Kenny MacAskill, I copy the words of the renowned poet, Robert Burns.  I hope he reads this and considers the 270 lives that were lost to al-Megrahi’s fanaticism as he does it.  I hope the children of Scotland read this and recognize they have been duped.

Parcel of Rogues In A Nation

Fareweel to a’ our Scottish fame,
Fareweel our ancient glory;
Fareweel to e’en our Scottish name
Sae fam’d in sang and story.
Now Sark rins tae th’ Solway sands,
An’ Tweed runs t’ th’ ocean..
Tae mark whaur England’s Province stands:
Sic a parcel of rogues in a nation!

What force or guile could not subdue
Thro’ many warlike ages,
Is wrought now by a coward few
For hireling traitor’s wages.
The English steel we could disdain,
Secure in valour’s station.
But English gold has been our bane:
Sic a parcel of rogues in a nation!

Oh, would or had I seen the day
That treason thus could sell us!
My auld grey head had lien in clay,
Wi’ Bruce and loyal Wallace!
But, pith and power, till my last hour,
I’ll make this declaration:
We were bought and sold for English gold!
Sic a parcel of rogues in a nation!

“…the truth has finally come to light.”

It most definitely has not – and probably never will. In fact I think it is positively dangerous to use the word “truth” in any matter where politics are involved. Whereas “truth” can be open to interpretation actual facts can only be subject to omission. Two Scottish sayings -

An Fhirinn an aghaidh an t-Saoghail! (The Truth against the World!),

Facts are chiels that winna ding (Facts cannot lie).

Here’s some advice -

“Just remember, especially in politics, that people who make statements as fact without knowing what they’re talking about are just opening their mouth and letting their belly rumble.”
