What a month! Things have been really hectic for me and the blog has been ignored a bit. So it’s time for a quick news reel to catch back up.
Invision has gone through all the Beta releases of IP.Board 3.1.0, IP.Blog 2.2.0, IP.Content 2.0.0 and IP.Gallery 3.2.0 and we kept up with each release. All of those scripts have now been released as fully-supported releases and I am personally very happy with how well all the new features and functions are working.
Over the last 6 months, I am astonished at how the Invision developers have managed to not only come up with such a solid upgrade, but one that has added so many new features at the same time. I feel as if my forums are much more friendly to prospective members, because of things like OpenID log-in, Facebook log-in, Twitter Log-in, as well as all the status updates that can now be shared with the forums, Twitter and Facebook. There have been changes made to help with search engine optimization and I have been amazed at how well these have worked for me. A site that once used vBulletin and vBSEO now has it’s top keyword ranking higher than ever before, bumping ahead of a competitor I have been trying to best for well over three years. My traffic numbers are all vastly improved and I am more than a little pleased with the increase in revenue I have seen since switching to Invision.
I had a lot of good years with vBulletin and vBSEO and was completely unprepared to see the improvements Invision Power Board brought to the table. I still see people fretting over vBulletin 4 and I cannot understand why they don’t just convert over to a vastly superior forum script — Invision.
I’ve even managed to learn a bit about working with CSS, as I’ve dome some simple color redesigns of the standard IP.Board 3.1 skin for my sites. I’ll never be able to do work like John at Transverse Styles, but I’m pleased with what I was able to come up with.
I had never really done any extreme design work like this before and it was quite a learning experience. I did a green skin, a red skin and a blue skin. My only problem now is trying to sort which one I like best. I’m getting ready to start working on yet another design and I am hoping it will also turn out well. I’m happy to say I’ve learned more about using some graphics programs, as well. This old dog likes learning new tricks.
Last weekend I was able to spend a bit of time with my granddaughter, to celebrate her second birthday. It seems time is really slipping away from me these days and I hope what little bit I have left in life doesn’t get away too quickly. I want to be around to see her grow into a beautiful young lady. I love you Lauren!
